Chidera Okemeziem earned her BSc in Biochemistry and previously worked as a research assistant in the Department of Nephrology at the Cumming School of Medicine, where she used human-centred design to build and usability-test a digital medication-guidance app for patients with chronic kidney disease, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Alongside her research background, she has 6 years of experience in product design and management, translating complex sensor data into consumer-facing digital interfaces.

Now an MSc student in Biomedical Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Sayeh Bayat, Dera's research sits at the intersection of wearable sensor technology and assistive digital health. She's focusing on using GPS mobility data to identify digital biomarkers of cognitive and physical decline in older adults and developing these insights into decision-support tools for occupational therapists.
