Javad Sarvestan, PhD

Postdoctoral Scholar

Dr. Javad Sarvestan received his Bachelor's degree in Sports Biomechanics in 2015, during which he acquired exceptional abilities in using biomechanics lab equipment while studying the in-depth theoretical aspects of human movement biomechanics. He went on to obtain a Master's degree in Sports Biomechanics in 2018, focusing on the development of mathematical modelling for sports activities. Subsequently, he earned a Ph.D. degree in Biomechanics of Human Movement (Kinanthropology) from Palacky University Olomouc (Czech Republic), in collaboration with the University of Lincoln (UK), in 2022. His doctoral research concentrated on the application of machine learning to analyze whole-body coordination patterns among elite athletes. Following his Ph.D., Dr. Sarvestan served as a postdoctoral research associate at Newcastle University (UK), where he focused on digital health technologies, including algorithm development and validation in wearable devices for monitoring individuals with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s, and Degenerative Cerebellar Ataxia. He was also awarded a postdoctoral scholarship to work on the development of musculoskeletal modelling pipelines and the reinvention of custom-mode orthosis at the University of Lisbon (remote). Currently, he holds the position of postdoctoral fellow at the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary, focusing on 'Leveraging Digital Technology for Early Detection of Alzheimer’s Disease'.
